Why are electricity reduction measures not showing in usage in the Canterbury district yet?

As part of my interest in the carbon footprint in the Canterbury district I thought I would take a look at some Government stats fron the Department of the Environment and Climate Change.
The results are interesting as, looking at this statistic in isolation (which is always a bit questionable), Canterbury does not seem to have reduced it's electricity usage at all between 2005 and 2009. If we look at this against Medway, who have had steady reduction in both domestic and commercial usage during this period it begs a question of why?
Thanet also suprised me in that I was expecting a reduction from 2008 given all the issues with the local economy, but this is not visible in the usage statistics.
I must look deeper....

Blogging at last

Well, now I have a blog I had better find something sensible to say.

I visited the Faversham Hop Festival today for the first time in many years, which is very lazy as it is just down the road. I was delighted to see large crowd of people enjoying themselves, with lots of free music and great street food. Faversham seem to have got this nailed - perhaps Canterbury could take a lesson from this.

There is a Hop Festival in Canterbury, The Hop Hoodening, which is usually the Saturday after the Faversham Hop Festival. It is much more low key, and seems to only attract a few followers other than the Morris and country dancers who perform around the town.
The highlight is a service in the Cathedral at 11:00am where the hops are blessed and dancing is incorporated into the service, and this is followed by a mass dance in the Cathedral Precincts.

I hope the blog will develop into more about issues in the area - in particular related to the environment and the economy of East Kent, But it may delve into any passing fancy.

Kind regards
Martyn
